Senior Software Engineer II – Contacts Team – Java

Overview

In this role, you will shape the backend powering Wise’s recipient experience, focusing on scalable, reliable delivery of recipient management. You’ll work within an autonomous team to build a world-class product that supports secure account discovery, search, and local integrations. Your work drives cross-functional outcomes, ensuring a smooth, data-informed experience for customers. This is a hands-on, impact-oriented role in a mission to simplify international money movement at scale.

Responsibilities

• Drive the backend technical vision for the recipient experience
• Scale and build the recipient management product
• Collaborate within an autonomous, cross-functional team (engineering, design, product, analytics)
• Design, deploy and maintain RESTful APIs
• Write testable code with emphasis on TDD and code quality
• Collaborate to improve reliability and performance of scalable systems
• Work with both relational and non-relational databases, including schema design and query optimization
• Engage in code reviews and promote best practices across the team

Key requirements

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems
• Java 8+ knowledge
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases, including schema design and query optimization
• Strong product mindset and customer-focused decision making
