Overview

As a Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter in a growing UK MGA, you will underwrite complex new business and renewal risks across commercial property, liability, and combined lines. You’ll operate with delegated authority, drive profitable growth, and serve as a trusted trading partner to brokers. You’ll mentor junior underwriters, contribute to underwriting strategy, and help shape product development and process improvements. This is a fast-paced, collaborative environment with clear progression toward leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite complex commercial Property & Casualty risks for new business and renewals
  • Manage broker relationships and generate new business opportunities
  • Monitor portfolio performance, analyze loss ratios, and enforce underwriting discipline
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior underwriters
  • Contribute to underwriting strategy, product development, and process improvements
  • Act as a referral point for junior colleagues and support their development

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in commercial P&C underwriting, preferably within an MGA or composite insurer
  • Strong trading mentality with autonomy and decision-making ability
  • Minimum Cert CII qualification (Dip CII or ACII beneficial)
  • Strong technical understanding of commercial property, liability, and combined products
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-management skills
  • Mentoring or coaching experience advantageous
  • Willingness to progress towards team leadership roles
