Underwriting Execution and Governance Lead

Overview

In this role you will support the Head of Underwriting Governance and contribute to the development and execution of underwriting strategy. You will help implement and manage the group’s underwriting governance framework, align guidelines with business plans, and monitor market-driven changes. You will produce executive materials and use analytics and AI-enabled tools to inform decisions, partnering with data and technology teams. This position offers exposure to senior leadership, strategic governance, and impactful risk management across AXIS.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and management of the Group’s underwriting governance framework
• Oversee post-bind review of underwriting framework and align guidelines with annual business plans
• Assist in implementing changes to underwriting strategies to stay aligned with plans and market developments
• Design, develop and implement new underwriting strategies across the group
• Collaborate with underwriting teams and the CUO function to identify trends and remediate issues
• Produce executive-level materials (memos, presentations, notes, dashboards) for decision-making
• Provide structured decision support through analysis, narratives, and scenario/t trade-off assessments
• Leverage data analytics and AI-enabled tools to enhance underwriting oversight and governance reporting
• Partner with data, technology and analytics teams to apply machine learning, automation, or generative AI to improve governance and execution
• Take on additional duties as needed

Key requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in a technical role in commercial lines (re)insurance
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a highly analytical subject
• Experience in (re)insurance industry performance and/or governance management roles
• Proven ability to build relationships with colleagues and influence outcomes
• Experience in best-practice underwriting performance and governance frameworks
• Ability to support senior executive decision-making through structured analysis and clear narratives
• Experience with data analytics platforms, management information, or decision-support tools for underwriting or portfolio strategy
