Overview

In this Lead Lawyer role, you will steer a Complex Injury team in Birmingham, combining technical excellence with people leadership to handle high-value claims. You’ll develop the team, manage a demanding caseload, and strengthen client relationships while influencing the firm’s growth. This position offers scope to shape the team and contribute to client strategy and firm initiatives. You will lead by example, drive performance, and support business development in a forward-thinking, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and develop a team of complex injury lawyers (initially 2 direct reports)
• Manage a caseload of complex injury claims, mainly RTA with some EL/PL exposure
• Handle large loss cases (250,000 – 1M+), with Technical Director support
• Advise clients on indemnity, liability, quantum and claims strategy
• Build and strengthen relationships with insurance clients and senior claims handlers
• Develop your profile and support business development and client growth
• Deliver training internally and to clients
• Attend court hearings, trials and settlement conferences
• Drive team performance via objective setting, reviews, and development plans
• Support recruitment and team expansion as the function grows
• Ensure compliance with SRA regulations and firm processes

Key requirements

• Qualified Solicitor with strong Defendant RTA experience
• Proven track record handling high-value complex injury claims
• Experience managing cases 250,000 – 1M+
• Confident in advocacy
• Proven ability to lead, inspire and develop a team
• Strong communicator with ability to deliver feedback and support performance
• Passionate about people development, wellbeing and engagement
• Skilled at delegation and workload management
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills
• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities
