Garment Development Technologist Womenswear

Overview

In this role you will translate design concepts into market-ready womenswear by developing technical specifications, ensuring fit and quality, and driving responsible sourcing and compliance. You will collaborate with Design, Buying and suppliers to deliver innovative, well-made products that align with M&S standards. You’ll stay ahead of fabric and construction trends and shape product strategy through data-driven insights. This is an opportunity to influence product quality and sustainability at scale within a fast-moving retail environment.

Responsibilities

• Keep up-to-date with materials and construction trends and feed insights into development
• Ensure product safety, compliance and ethical standards are met
• Develop and deliver tech packs detailing fit, fabric quality, Made Well standards, construction and components
• Approve fits and contract seals to ensure consistent construction
• Sign off BOM and maintain all technical documentation (legal, testing, safety) on the system
• Collaborate with Design, Buying, supply base and Global Sourcing to translate concepts into market-ready products

Key requirements

• Expert in technology related to fabric/raw materials manufacturing
• Excellent communication with cross-functional teams (FH&B Technical Function, Design, Buying, supply base, Global Sourcing)
• Multi-tasking under tight deadlines with an entrepreneurial mindset
• Ability to interpret customer data (CIU, Bazaarvoice, QPIs, online star ratings) to inform product development
• Experience briefing and specifying direct design-sourced product and creating Tech Packs
