Senior Systems Engineer, Public Sector, Defence and Defence Industrial Base (UK&I)

Overview

In this Senior Systems Engineer role, you act as a trusted pre-sales partner for public sector, defence, and defence industrial base accounts across the UK and Ireland. You translate complex government and defence needs into clear architectures and proposals, guiding opportunities from discovery to close. You mentor a team of SEs, enable partners, and drive technical validation in mission-critical environments. You will work closely with cross-functional groups to deliver confident, compliant solutions that meet security and resilience requirements. This is a remote role with regular travel, offering a meaningful chance to shape public sector and defence digital transformation.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Account Executives to shape opportunities and move deals through the funnel
• Lead technical direction within a pool of SEs and mentor less experienced colleagues
• Translate customer requirements, including security and accreditation considerations, into technical architectures, proposals, and quotes
• Conduct technical presentations, demos, and workshops for government and defence stakeholders
• Enable and coach channel partner SEs to position solutions across the public sector and defence market
• Validate technical fit across storage architectures, protocols, and broader infrastructure with emphasis on security and resilience
• Collaborate with Sales, Partners, Support, Product, and other teams to ensure a strong buying experience
• Participate in internal training and knowledge sharing on public sector procurement and requirements

Key requirements

• 10+ years in pre-sales, systems engineering, solution architecture, or similar customer-facing role
• Strong storage and infrastructure fundamentals; storage experience strongly preferred
• Knowledge of block, file, and object storage and related technologies (FC, iSCSI, NAS, SAN, virtualization)
• Familiarity with UK government and defence procurement frameworks and security classifications
• Ability to lead consultative technical discovery and engage with senior customers and partners
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Collaborative, proactive mindset with strong discovery and qualification skills
• Experience with or through channel partners and defence primes is valuable
• Active UK Government security vetting completed
• Role allows remote work with regular UK travel
