Estimator – Structural steel

Overview

In this role you will deliver accurate, commercially sound estimates for structural steel projects within an established contractor. You’ll collaborate with commercial and project teams to shape bids and influence project selection and profitability. Expect varied pipeline, flexible remote options for the right candidate, and a direct impact on project winning. You’ll work hands-on with drawings, fabrication realities and supplier quotes to reflect true project needs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare competitive estimates and tenders for structural steel projects
• Analyse drawings, specifications and tender information to determine project requirements
• Build accurate costs for materials, fabrication, labour, transport and erection
• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Identify risks, exclusions and opportunities prior to tender submission
• Collaborate with clients, suppliers and internal teams to ensure final price aligns with project needs

Key requirements

• Proven experience estimating structural steelwork projects
• Strong understanding of fabrication, materials and steelwork erection
• Experience pricing from drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Ability to build accurate material, labour and subcontract costs
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of project margins
• Confidence dealing with suppliers, subcontractors and clients
