Overview

In this role you will manage proactive and reactive media for Home Office priorities, shaping government communications across broadcast, print and digital channels. You’ll work in a cross-functional team to design insight-led media plans, handle media inquiries and brief Ministers, helping to translate policy progress into clear messages. The role offers fast-paced, creative work with a clear public-service mission and opportunities to influence national policy narratives. You will collaborate with policy, operational teams and external stakeholders to protect and promote government priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on how communications can support policy and operations within cross-functional teams
  • Devise and deliver integrated media and communication plans for policy announcements and successes
  • Provide media advice, draft press releases and coordinate ministerial interviews
  • Respond to media inquiries and ensure accurate reporting of the department’s position
  • Advise Ministers and senior officials on proactive and reactive media
  • Collaborate with policy officials, operational teams and Ministers to leverage media in delivering priorities

Key requirements

  • Experience in fast-paced media roles, ability to juggle priorities and stay composed under pressure
  • Strong news sense and understanding of current affairs; ability to identify reputational risks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to build trusted relationships
  • Creative and digital communications skills
  • Ability to distill complex information into clear messages for different audiences
  • Understanding of how audience insight and evaluation inform strategy
