Geo-environmental Engineer

Overview

In this role you help grow Arup’s geo-environmental capability in the Midlands, Wales and West by delivering studies from site investigations through remediation strategies. You work with multidisciplinary teams to tackle brownfield and contaminated land projects, producing technical reports and practical, sustainable solutions. You’ll develop geo-environmental expertise while contributing to projects that support communities and client objectives. This is a collaborative opportunity in a supportive, values-driven firm.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of brownfield and contaminated land projects and geo-environmental aspects of multidisciplinary work
• Plan, deliver and interpret ground investigations and associated lab testing programmes
• Conduct contaminated land risk assessments and remediation strategies
• Analyse field and lab data to develop conceptual ground models and project-specific solutions
• Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to project teams and stakeholders
• Collaborate with geotechnical, environmental and wider multidisciplinary teams across Arup
• Support client relationships through high-quality technical delivery and professional communication
• Manage allocated work packages and contribute to successful project delivery

Key requirements

• Degree in Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geo-environmental Engineering or related discipline
• Experience or strong academic understanding of contaminated land assessment, ground investigations and geo-environmental project delivery
• Familiarity with UK legislation, guidance and best practices for land contamination, waste and materials management
• Experience in desktop studies and interpretation of ground investigation, laboratory and in-situ testing data
• Ability to develop conceptual site models and assess ground-related risks with mitigation input
• Experience with data management and interpretation tools (OpenGround, Leapfrog) would be advantageous
• Understanding or exposure to geo-environmental project work involving PFAS or emerging contaminants is desirable
• Working towards Chartership with a relevant professional institution
