Lead Software Engineer Python API

Overview

In this Lead Software Engineer role, you’ll stay hands-on while guiding a technical team to build a complex SaaS calculation platform for cyber security insurance. You’ll shape architecture, define requirements, and align engineering work with business goals in a fast-growing, global environment. You’ll mentor engineers, enforce quality and CI/CD practices, and collaborate with Product Owners to prioritise work. This is a chance to influence technical direction and deliver scalable, robust software. You’ll work from London or hybrid with regular office days.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and hands-on contribution to design and implementation
• Define technical requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives
• Lead architectural decisions and technical designs in collaboration with stakeholders
• Facilitate code reviews, maintain coding standards, and promote quality assurance
• Drive development efficiency initiatives (e.g., CI/CD) and best practices
• Mentor and guide small to medium technical teams
• Coordinate with Product Owners to prioritise tasks and allocate resources

Key requirements

• Proven experience leading and mentoring small to medium technical teams
• Strong Python backend development skills
• Experience building FastAPI applications
• Good knowledge of Azure
• Experience handling data at scale
• Strong SQL skills (PostgreSQL, SQL Server) with Azure Databricks experience highly preferred
• Solid CS fundamentals (data structures, design patterns, OOP)
