Ecologist (Experienced)

Overview

As part of the Ecology team, you will lead and deliver ecological projects from concept to completion. You’ll conduct field surveys, support large and small projects, and guide clients through legislation and best practice. You work with cross‑functional teams to ensure biodiversity and ecosystem considerations are integrated into project designs. This role offers exposure to a range of renewables and environmental challenges, with opportunities to mentor staff and influence outcomes. Responsibilities

• Conducting/leading/guiding a range of ecological surveys
• Project management including budget control, invoicing, scheduling, and client liaison
• Prepare high-quality ecological reports and technical documents (PEA, BNG, protected species summaries, EcIA)
• Preparing fee proposals and tendering for work
• Providing expert advice on ecological matters and ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice
• Developing and implementing mitigation and enhancement strategies to deliver biodiversity net gain
• Mentoring junior staff
• Business development

Key requirements

• A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
• Experience in ecological consultancy with a proven track record
• Comprehensive knowledge of UK habitat and protected species legislation and survey methodologies
• Good botanical identification skills (ideally FISC level 3+)
• Experience in EcIAs and planning applications
• Excellent report writing and communication skills
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
• Protected species licenses are highly desirable
• Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain calculations, implementation and reporting
