Overview
In this Senior Mechanical Engineer role, you will lead mechanical design across projects for a building services consultancy in Cardiff or Bristol. You will mentor junior engineers, manage client relationships, and deliver innovative, low-carbon HVAC and building services solutions. You’ll collaborate with architects and contractors to coordinate designs and ensure projects meet objectives and standards. This is a chance to influence sustainable design at scale while progressing toward Chartered Engineer status.

Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design process across all RIBA stages with high-quality, innovative solutions
- Manage projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver on time and within budget
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a primary contact for stakeholders
- Oversee quality assurance and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
- Conduct site inspections, support commissioning activities, and perform technical reviews
- Develop detailed mechanical designs, specifications, and reports
- Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other disciplines to deliver coordinated designs
Key requirements
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical building services design
- Proven project leadership experience
- Membership of CIBSE (or working towards)
- Progress towards Chartered Engineer status desirable
- Strong technical expertise in HVAC systems, load calculations, and low-carbon design
- Experience with BMS integration, plantroom design, and renewables
- Proficiency in CAD, MagicCAD and BIM software
