Design Engineer – Composites

Overview

In this role you will design and develop suspension, steering and braking components from concept to detailed design, supporting R&D and production through build, test and fault resolution. You’ll contribute to lightweight, efficient structures and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve design practices. You will investigate faults, produce drawings and calculations, and drive continuous improvement in design processes. This is an opportunity to shape high-performance automotive systems within a premier F1 team.

Responsibilities

• Create conceptual and detailed designs for vehicle components and structures
• Develop lightweight, structurally efficient, cost-effective solutions with mass and stiffness trade-offs
• Produce supporting structural and functional calculations
• Collaborate with aerodynamics, vehicle science, electronics, chassis, stress, transmission, R&D, production and external suppliers
• Support the writing of technical procedures and system specifications
• Assist with fault investigations and implement robust fixes
• Aid drawing and assembly checking
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design efficiency
• Support project allocation, supplier engagement, and user-acceptance activities as directed

Key requirements

• Solid technical skill with solid grounding in composite components design and manufacture
• Good CAD skills; Siemens NX experience is a bonus (training available)
• Interest in developing project delivery experience
• Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality work under pressure
• Proactive, self-motivated with ownership of workload
• Positive, open, team-focused attitude; good judgement and communication
• Good organisational abilities with prioritisation
• Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, Marine or a closely related engineering discipline
• Some technical experience in the specialist area and eagerness to grow in a fast-paced environment
