Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to the mechanical design of release systems within L3Harris Brighton, leading engineering work packages and shaping robust mechanical architectures. You will work cross-functionally to ensure designs meet requirements, lifecycle considerations, and standards, while engaging with customers and suppliers. The position offers the chance to drive technical outcomes on mission-critical systems used in fighter, rotary-wing, and unmanned platforms. You will operate within a collaborative, governance-driven environment that values rigorous design and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical design input to mechanical architectures, interfaces and key design features
• Lead assigned work packages and engineering programmes with accountability for scope, delivery, risk and outcomes
• Contribute to design trade studies and selection of robust solutions
• Coordinate engineering activities across disciplines without direct line management
• Guide design intent and alignment with requirements, constraints and lifecycle
• Review and assure mechanical design outputs (drawings, analyses, specs)
• Assess feasibility against cost, schedule, manufacturability and lifecycle
• Address complex technical issues from project teams, manufacturing or suppliers
• Interface with customers and suppliers to clarify requirements and approaches
• Provide input to cost and schedule estimates for programme activities
• Ensure compliance with standards (BS8888, ISO 1101 and internal governance)

Key requirements

• BEng/BSc in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with >=6 years, or MEng/MSc with >=4 years, or HNC/HND with >=10 years
• Strong delivery experience in engineering programmes/tasks
• Experience in requirements engineering across lifecycle
• Understanding of risk management for tasks within programmes
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities under governance
• Hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools and PDM with configuration control
• Familiarity with MRP and manufacturing engineering
• Experience in supporting technical reviews, work planning and schedules
