Overview

In this fully remote, on-demand role you will provide specialist Revenues, Benefits, Assessments and Property Inspection support to local authority clients during peak demand or staffing pressures. You’ll help ensure accurate Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits administration while working across one or more specialist areas. You’ll collaborate with public sector stakeholders to process claims, perform inspections, and maintain compliant records. This is a chance to impact public services by delivering efficient, regulated services at scale. You will work independently yet contribute to a wider government-focused mission and multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Process Council Tax, Business Rates and Benefits work in line with legislation
  • Assess information to determine claims, liabilities, reductions, exemptions and recovery actions
  • Respond to enquiries by phone, email and written correspondence
  • Carry out account maintenance, billing, payment arrangements and overpayments
  • Gather, review and verify evidence for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support claims
  • Process revisions, appeals, disputes and overpayment recovery actions per legislation
  • Maintain accurate records and meet service levels and deadlines
  • Access client systems and adhere to contract processes
  • Liaise with government departments and external agencies
  • Undertake property inspections, validation visits and reporting where relevant
  • Utilise DWP Customer Information System (CIS) where appropriate

Key requirements

  • Minimum three years of experience in Revenues, Benefits, Assessments or related local government environment
  • Strong knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support legislation
  • Experience processing assessments, liabilities, payments, recovery actions or property inspection activities
  • Confident using Revenues and Benefits systems and online case management platforms
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex regulations clearly
  • Strong customer service experience dealing with the public and stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage competing priorities
  • Highly organized with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets and deadlines
  • Experience using DWP CIS is desirable
