Python Developer / Team Lead – FinTech

Overview

In this role you will lead a small engineering team while hands-on in Python development. You will contribute to a core banking platform and drive feature delivery, refactoring, and architectural decisions. You’ll balance coding with people management, mentoring, and establishing engineering standards. The work blends cloud-based services, API design, and SDLC discipline to scale a fintech platform. This is a hybrid London-based role with a strong impact on product delivery and team growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small tech team to deliver features and perform refactoring on the core banking platform
• Contribute hands-on to architecture and design decisions with a 50/50 split between technical work and people management
• Set engineering standards and mentor junior developers
• Conduct 1-2-1s and performance reviews
• Collaborate on API development and integration with external partners (e.g., HSBC)
• Promote continuous improvement and professional development within the team
• Support CI/CD processes, testing, and deployment activities

Key requirements

• Experience as a Python developer with full SDLC knowledge
• Proven team leadership and mentoring abilities
• Knowledge of cloud services (GCP preferred; AWS or Azure acceptable)
• Experience building APIs, ideally with FastAPI
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, testing, and deployment
• Solid grasp of CS fundamentals (OOP, data structures, design patterns, algorithms)
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills
• Degree in a STEM discipline with 2.1 or higher
