Highways Managing Quantity Surveyor

Overview

Take a leadership role overseeing commercial performance across multiple highways projects in Northampton and surrounding areas. You will lead the commercial function, mentor a team of surveyors, and shape commercial strategy and value engineering opportunities. You will manage risk, ensure process compliance, and act as the commercial advisor on contracts and disputes. You will build client relationships and support continuous improvement of commercial systems. This role offers autonomy, impact on major highway schemes, and long-term progression within a growing highways division.

• £85,000-£90,000 per annum

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial function across several highways schemes from inception to final account
• Mentor and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors from trainee to senior level
• Prepare and review CVRs and project forecasts with strategic insight
• Identify and mitigate commercial risks and drive value engineering
• Ensure projects comply with internal commercial processes and best practice
• Advise on contractual matters and dispute resolution
• Oversee procurement strategies and maintain supply chain relationships
• Manage client relationships and represent the business professionally
• Support continuous improvement of commercial systems and processes

Key requirements

• Senior Quantity Surveying experience within highways or civil engineering
• Strong commercial and contractual knowledge (NEC experience preferred)
• Experience managing multiple projects and leading commercial teams
• Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team development skills
• Ability to manage risk, drive performance, and influence key decisions
• Strong communication skills with internal teams and external clients
