Senior Biomedical Scientist Haematology & Blood Transfusion

Overview

In this role you will lead training and development within the Haematology & Blood Transfusion Laboratory, alongside the senior team. You will supervise a team handling specimen preparation, automated analysers, and blood film preparation, ensuring quality and compliance. You will shape training programmes, maintain records, and collaborate with pathology staff to support clinical trials and research. You will work autonomously as a Biomedical Scientist, delivering high standards and continuous skills development. Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day laboratory operations and manage a team of Associate Practitioners and registered Biomedical Scientists
• Provide a high-quality service aligned with UKAS and MHRA standards
• Develop and maintain relationships with clinical and scientific staff to enable trials and research across Trust sites
• Lead training initiatives, supporting training and development within the department
• Supervise specimen preparation, automated analysers operation, and blood film preparation
• Maintain accurate records and documentation
• Collaborate with senior department staff to ensure compliance with policies and methods

Key requirements

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
• Masters degree in Blood Sciences or equivalent
• Experience as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist at band 7
• Experience guiding IBMS portfolio acquisition processes
• Desirable: Specialist portfolio in Haematology and Blood Transfusion or BBTS qualification
• Desirable: IBMS training the trainers/examiners course
