Senior Lead Scala/Java Software Engineer – CDAO Data Platforms

Overview

As a Senior Lead Software Engineer in JPMorganChase’s Data Platforms, you drive secure, scalable, and trusted technology solutions. You lead engineering efforts across metadata, meta-modelling, and distributed systems while aligning with the Chief Data & Analytics Office mission. You apply deep Scala/functional programming expertise and AI-assisted practices to deliver high-quality code and impactful, cross-functional solutions in a public cloud. You shape design decisions and mentor engineers, contributing to the wider SDLC framework.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering of metadata, meta-modelling and distributed systems
• Provide technical guidance to business teams, contractors, and vendors
• Develop secure, high-quality production code and perform reviews
• Promote AI-assisted engineering practices across teams with measurable standards
• Leverage SDLC tools and AI-enabled automation to improve value at scale
• Influence product design and operational processes
• Act as a function-wide SME in areas of focus
• Advocate for firmwide SDLC frameworks, tools, and practices

Key requirements

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts
• Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
• Advanced experience in Scala and Java
• Experience with asynchronous runtimes like Cats Effect
• Experience deploying and using enterprise AI-assisted development tools and setting team expectations for outputs
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use, data sensitivity, and secure engineering practices
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
• Practical cloud-native experience
