Overview

Starling seeks experienced engineers to join the Payment Schemes team, shaping core payment integrations for Faster Payments, BACS, and SWIFT. You will build and maintain robust, scalable systems, ensuring payment accuracy and reliability in a cloud-native Java stack. The role offers cross-team collaboration and exposure to mission-critical services at a fast-moving fintech. You will help drive reliable, innovative payments while contributing to Starling’s disruptive banking mission.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain payment integration systems for Faster Payments, BACS, and SWIFT
• Ensure system stability and accuracy of payments
• Deliver new features and mandated changes with reliability
• Write clean, maintainable Java code and participate in automated testing and CI/CD
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex payment problems
• Own parts of the payment integrations and improve reliability and performance

Key requirements

• At least 5 years of Java experience
• Strong attention to detail and ability to write concise, maintainable code
• Experience with delivering robust, scalable systems
• Knowledge of distributed architectures and systems
• Desirable experience with AWS and PostgreSQL
