Lead Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead the development and delivery of innovation across SP Energy Networks Transmission, shaping the Innovation Strategy and RIIO-T3 roadmap. You will engage stakeholders to identify challenges, manage cross-functional projects, and embed innovative solutions into the network and BAU practices. The role blends technical oversight with regulatory and financial governance to deliver a safer, more resilient, and sustainable electricity system. You’ll work with partners and regulators to drive value for customers and accelerate the energy transition.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and delivery of innovation initiatives across SP Energy Networks Transmission
• Identify future network challenges through stakeholder engagement and prioritise opportunities
• Shape and contribute to the Transmission Innovation Strategy and RIIO-T3 roadmap
• Facilitate workshops to capture and prioritise innovation needs
• Manage innovation projects and work packages meeting technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements
• Act as main technical and financial contact for project stakeholders
• Prepare regulatory reports, publications, and knowledge-sharing activities
• Drive adoption of innovation outputs into Business-as-Usual practices
• Build strong relationships with internal/external stakeholders and regulatory bodies
• Promote safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance
• Support development of innovation proposals delivering customer and network value

Key requirements

• Degree or equivalent experience in engineering or technical field
• Experience leading projects within complex technical environments
• Strong understanding of electricity transmission or distribution networks and regulatory landscape
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, influencing, and relationship management
• Knowledge of project management principles and tools
• Ability to assess business cases, costs and benefits for innovation investment
• Strong communication and presentation skills across audiences
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Passion for innovation and delivering value to customers
• Full UK driving licence
