Consultant Psychiatrist – CAMHS Emergency Care Service

Overview

In this role you will lead the CAMHS Emergency Care Service, providing mental health assessment and crisis care for children and young people across multiple London boroughs. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, shaping care pathways and coordinating across acute hospitals, CAMHS clinics, and community services. The position offers teaching and service development opportunities within a transforming trust striving to deliver high-quality, accessible emergency mental health care. This is a part-time post with strategic impact in improving care during crises.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical oversight and emergency psychiatric consultation for the CECS team
• Offer liaison, advice, and management support to professionals within the team and wider network
• Collaborate with Tier 2/3 services and coordinate referrals with Tier 4 providers
• Develop and implement effective care plans with young people, parents, and carers
• Contribute to multidisciplinary and multiagency care packages for complex presentations
• Guide paediatric colleagues on legal frameworks under MHA; support RC responsibilities
• Educate staff in A&E and paediatric wards on managing mental health crises; participate in teaching across the hospitals

Key requirements

• Primary Medical degree
• CCT Specialist Registration
• Full GMC registration with licence to practise
• Included on the GMC Specialist Register or eligible within 3 months of completing CCT
• Approved Clinician status (or able to achieve within 3 months)
• Section 12 (2) approval of the Mental Health Act (or able to achieve within 3 months)

• Collaborative and liaison skills with various agencies
• Experience in teaching and training
• Expertise in assessment and management of mental health emergencies in children and adolescents
• Knowledge of MHA/MCA and related legal frameworks
• Bio-psycho-social clinical approach
