Overview

In this role you support Sompo’s London Market pricing for Specialty Lines, collaborating with underwriters to price complex contracts and develop actuarial models. You’ll work across data collection, modelling, and reporting to drive profitable growth and better market understanding. The position offers exposure to cross-functional teams and real projects, with opportunities to shape pricing strategies in a global insurer. This is a hands-on role in a dynamic environment with a clear impact on portfolio performance and business planning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist data collection, analysis and validation for actuarial modelling and calculations
  • Develop and use tools to monitor rate changes and rate adequacy
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to derive actuarial insights for business objectives
  • Price complex contracts across listed classes, explaining modelling techniques to underwriters
  • Support pricing models for new areas of business and update models via reparameterisation and structural changes
  • Apply pricing techniques to account and portfolio analyses and present findings to management and underwriters
  • Contribute to business planning with the lead Pricing Actuary and underwriters to justify plans
  • Identify growth opportunities by aligning portfolio with market perspectives
  • Perform risk audits to ensure model integrity and resolve deficiencies
  • Research industry developments and trends impacting Sompo
  • Perform other ad hoc duties as required

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
  • Qualified or progressing towards actuarial qualification with IFoA or similar body
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in commercial insurance
  • Experience in the listed classes of business preferred
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently in a fast-paced, global organisation
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; proficiency in Excel, SQL; IT skills in R and Python are advantageous
