Senior / Principal FPGA Engineer

Overview

Senior/Principal FPGA engineer focused on designing and verifying FPGA solutions in VHDL and Verilog/SystemVerilog. You will collaborate with Systems, Hardware and Software teams to address complex integration challenges and deliver robust FPGA designs. The role emphasizes timing/area constraints, traceable requirements, and high-quality documentation, with opportunities to work in aerospace/defense-relevant projects. This is a hands-on position that values technical risk mitigation, clear communication, and cross-disciplinary coordination. You will contribute to safe, reliable FPGA implementations in a demanding domain.

Responsibilities

• Develop and verify FPGA designs in VHDL/Verilog
• Collaborate with Systems, Hardware and Software teams for integration
• Document deliverables and maintain revision control
• Specify timing and area constraints for Place and Route
• Perform independent verification of FPGA designs (VHDL)
• Coordinate day-to-day technical activities with Project Engineering Lead and other disciplines
• Support hardware/system level verification and debugging
• Prepare technical reports and documentation

Key requirements

• ≥5 years FPGA development experience using VHDL or Verilog
• Proficient with Mentor Graphics FPGA tools (HDL Designer, ModelSim/Questa, Precision)
• Familiar with Xilinx/Intel/Altera/Microsemi design flows (ISE, Vivado, Quartus)
• Experience in timing/area constraint specification for Place and Route
• Independent verification using VHDL
• Experience in requirements capture and management tools
• Strong FPGA version control/revision control
• Ability to mitigate technical risk and make technical decisions
• Excellent written and spoken communication
• Ability to analyze system/hardware level requirements for FPGA derivation
• Debugging FPGA designs and supporting integration/verification at hardware and system level
• Experience with High-Speed Serial protocols and implementations
• Linux and scripting experience
• Experience in writing technical reports/documentation
