Senior New Business Construction Underwriter

Overview

In this role you will underwrite construction risks for new business to support profitable growth across Allianz’s Commercial team. You will price and assess risk in line with appetite and strategy, while building strong broker and client relationships. You’ll negotiate terms and identify new opportunities to expand the market, contributing to regional underwriting initiatives. You will collaborate with Claims, Operations and Risk teams and represent Allianz in broker and client meetings. This role offers hybrid working in Birmingham or Bristol, with opportunities to influence a world-class construction offering and career development within a global insurer.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite construction risks for new business to meet growth and profitability targets
• Assess and price risk in line with Allianz appetite and underwriting strategy
• Build and maintain broker and client relationships through regular engagement
• Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to secure sustainable business
• Proactively identify and develop new business opportunities within the market
• Contribute to regional underwriting strategy and key business initiatives
• Provide support and guidance to colleagues on lower license levels, sign off referrals and QA
• Collaborate with Claims, Operations, and Risk teams
• Represent Allianz positively in broker and client meetings

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in construction underwriting, including casualty/liability covers
• Strong ability to underwrite new business effectively
• Confident communicator with brokers and negotiation skills
• Analytical mindset to assess complex risks and market conditions
• Commercial awareness focused on profitable growth and retention
