Lead Test Engineer (Healthcare)

Overview

As Lead Test Engineer, you will provide technical leadership in software testing within an agile team, shaping test strategy across automated, manual, and non-functional testing for public/defence/health domains. You will design and develop tests to ensure quality and readiness for users, make sound technical decisions in a fast-paced environment, and mentor a small team. You will collaborate with customers and cross-functional partners, share knowledge, and drive continuous improvement in QA practices. This role offers the chance to influence testing approaches, adopt new tools, and contribute to mission-critical software at scale.

Responsibilities

• Provide test leadership and direction within a multi-skilled agile team
• Strategise, design and develop automated, manual, and non-functional tests
• Ensure adequate test coverage across all software layers
• Coach and develop a small team, manage performance and career development
• Interact with customers and mentor colleagues to solve challenging problems

Key requirements

• Experience ensuring testing layers have adequate coverage
• Designing, creating and maintaining tests scripts and test approaches across all layers including non-functional testing
• Experience with open-source test automation technologies (Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, Cucumber, Cypress) and configuring tools like Jenkins or TeamCity in CI
• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (e.g. Java)
• Strong technical awareness and understanding of software architectures
• Experience managing others, giving feedback and leading performance reviews
