Power Systems Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead power network design and modelling for Critical National Infrastructure clients in the UK and Ireland. You will work with DNOs/TSOs, shape advisory perspectives at senior levels, and deliver advanced feasibility, design and flexibility solutions across generation, storage, and distribution. You will drive automation, AI and optimisation of power system studies and support multi-disciplinary project delivery in a global technology services company.

Responsibilities

• Lead power network design and modelling teams for DNO/TSO clients
• Perform load flow, thermal, voltage, and fault level analyses
• Prepare G99-compliant offer letters for HV/EHV connections
• Design and configure Active Network Management schemes
• Conduct curtailment analysis for ANM schemes
• Develop AI/ML oriented software solutions to automate power systems analyses
• Architect technical/financial models for power generation clients
• Design forecasts for load and generation for DNOs, TSOs and generators
• Support protection design and battery storage/ data centre electrical infrastructure
• Engage with client departments as trusted advisor
• Oversee teams of up to 10 staff and coordinate with stakeholders

Key requirements

• Masters/PhD or Bachelor in Power Systems engineering (ideally) or equivalent experience
• Experience with power distribution or transmission networks in UK/Ireland at 132kV and above
• Experience with power system modelling tools: DigSilent PowerFactory, PSS-E, PSS-SINCAL, IPSA
• Automation/AI solution development using Python or DigSilent Programming Language
• Understanding of substation design and protection principles
• Knowledge of 33kV BSP and grid connection concepts
• Hands-on experience with DigSilent PowerFactory and Python coding
• Ability to engage with client side departments and act as advisor
