Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

As Principal Electrical Engineer at Waterman Building Services Leeds, you lead electrical design and delivery across high-profile, sustainable projects. You will guide projects from concept through construction, mentor junior engineers and advise clients, while growing the Leeds team. You’ll manage your own project portfolio and shape cross-disciplinary solutions in a collaborative, BIM-enabled environment. Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and delivery from feasibility to completion
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, structural, civil, architects)
• Represent Waterman in client meetings and project workshops
• Manage programmes, resources, budgets, and technical quality
• Act as technical lead for electrical design and complex engineering challenges
• Contribute to business growth and the Leeds team
• Work within a fully integrated 3D BIM environment and support digital engineering workflows

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in electrical building services design across multiple sectors
• Proven ability to lead projects from feasibility to construction
• Experience using Revit, Amtech/Trimble ProDesign, Dialux/Relux
• Strong knowledge of LV distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarms, standby power, renewables, energy-efficient design
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate with engineers, architects, and contractors
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills
• Experience managing programmes, resources, budgets, and technical quality
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership (CIBSE or IET)
• Mentoring and development of junior colleagues
• Ability to work independently and across multiple offices; travel flexibility
• Strong understanding of sustainable design principles and low-carbon building services
• Familiarity with BIM workflows and digital engineering
