Overview

As an Employment Solicitor/Associate in Exeter, you join a respected Employment team within a National law firm. You will handle a broad, high-stakes caseload for major employers and public bodies, guiding clients on contracts, HR processes and tribunal work. You’ll support business development through events and relationship building, contributing to a collaborative, growth-driven culture. Responsibilities

  • Advising on employment status, contracts, handbooks, redundancy and discrimination; advising on day-to-day HR matters
  • Providing commercial support to HR teams on grievances, disciplinaries, performance and sickness management
  • Managing Employment Tribunal claims from ACAS Early Conciliation through to appeals
  • Representing clients in Tribunals, mediations and other dispute resolution processes
  • Supporting business development through events, training, relationship building and thought leadership

Key requirements

  • Qualified solicitor (England & Wales or Scotland)
  • 1–5 years’ PQE in employment law
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment legislation and case law
  • Experience handling complex matters, including settlement negotiations and Tribunal work
  • Excellent communication, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to a varied caseload
  • Ability to work with multiple senior lawyers and prioritise in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive in contributing ideas, improving processes and supporting team growth
  • Interest in business development and maintaining long-term client relationships
  • Advantageous but not essential: advocacy experience and familiarity with Scottish employment law
