Overview

As Managing Quantity Surveyor, you lead commercial governance and cost control across two large water treatment schemes within the Affinity Water framework. You will shape commercial strategy, manage risks and opportunities, and support a high-performing team to deliver projects on time and within budget. The role collaborates with project, commercial, and operations teams to drive value while fostering an inclusive, development-focused environment. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies from inception to completion
  • Lead cost control, forecasting and reporting (including CVRs and commercial reports)
  • Manage subcontract procurement: negotiations, contract administration
  • Oversee subcontract performance, valuations and change management
  • Ensure timely contractual notices and compensation events
  • Lead monthly payment applications and ensure robust project controls
  • Identify and mitigate risks and opportunities to improve outcomes
  • Build relationships with clients, stakeholders and internal teams
  • Support achievement of cash flow, profitability and delivery targets
  • Promote safe, inclusive working environment and team development

Key requirements

  • A relevant degree and/or equivalent professional experience
  • Professional membership (e.g. MRICS, MCIOB) or working towards it (desirable)
  • Experience in civil engineering projects, preferably water sector
  • Experience with large/complex infrastructure schemes
  • Understanding of NEC4 contracts
  • Strong commercial awareness and cost management/reporting
  • Proficiency with IT systems (Excel, Word, and contract/cost systems such as CEMAR, Asite, Orbit)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
