Overview

In this role you will lead safety, compliance and service improvement across Waste and Street Scene in Buckinghamshire. You will partner with senior leaders and contractors to secure robust governance, manage risks and drive a culture of operational safety. You will orchestrate policy development, audits and investigations to ensure regulatory standards are met and services remain safe and resilient. This is a high-impact role shaping how essential public services are delivered and continuously improved.

Responsibilities

  • Lead operational safety, compliance and service improvement programmes from inception to delivery
  • Provide expert guidance on health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Embed health, safety, environmental and regulatory considerations in planning and operations
  • Develop policies, procedures, business cases and improvement plans aligned to priorities
  • Monitor compliance performance and implement corrective actions
  • Establish governance, reporting and performance dashboards for senior management
  • Lead incident investigations and implement preventative actions
  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure legislative and organisational compliance
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to promote safe working practices and risk management
  • Analyze complex data to identify trends and improve service delivery and safety outcomes
  • Foster continuous improvement and a culture of safety excellence across services

Key requirements

  • Strong leadership in health and safety, compliance, risk management and service transformation within a large organisation
  • Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation, risk management and industry best practice
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations with corrective actions
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and work with senior managers, contractors and external partners
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and identify risks, develop solutions
  • Proven track record delivering organisational change and improving performance
  • Professionally qualified with NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent); IOSH membership preferred
