Principal Mechanical Engineer

Overview

As a key member of the engineering team, you will support requirements capture and engineering activities for waste containers and interface equipment within a highly regulated nuclear context. You’ll guide tolerances, review drawings, and help prepare component documents while mentoring Senior Engineers and Designers. Your work spans site surveys, DFMEA/PFMEA support, and lessons learned to improve technical tasks. This role offers meaningful impact by shaping safe, compliant designs in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Support requirements capture for waste containers and interface equipment
• Assist Engineering Manager in engineering activities
• Mentor Senior Engineers and Designers
• Define product requirements with the team
• Guide tolerance understanding on interface drawings
• Compile Component Requirements Documents
• Support site surveys and survey reports
• Assist in DFMEA/PFMEA (Design and Process)
• Review drawings and documents for accuracy
• Apply Lessons Learned (LFE) to technical tasks

Key requirements

• High-level technical competency with significant experience
• HNC or higher (minimum)
• Ability to innovate and develop new ideas
• Experience in project documentation, processes and reports
• Demonstrated stakeholder management
• Strong drawing standards knowledge (BS8888, ISO-GPS ISO 8015)
• Engineering background across design, manufacture, materials, welding, fabrication, machining
• FMEA familiarity (DFMEA, PFMEA)
• Excellent written and verbal communication
