Overview
In this role you will lead commercial activities on a major project, ensuring robust contractual control and accurate financial reporting. You will guide a small QS team, shape the commercial strategy, and protect margin while managing risk. You’ll partner with project teams to drive cost control, forecasting, and payment processes, contributing to Scotland’s energy infrastructure. The opportunity combines leadership, governance, and sustainable delivery within a trusted engineering environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead and support Quantity Surveying staff across the project
- Develop and deliver the commercial strategy to protect margin and manage risk
- Oversee cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow, valuations and final accounts
- Manage subcontract procurement, subcontract accounts and commercial performance
- Identify, value and agree variations with the customer
- Support project reviews, reporting and commercial decision-making
- Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty’s commercial processes, BMS and Group Minimum Commercial Expectations
- Maintain focus on Zero Harm, sustainability and BB values
- Guide project teams on all commercial matters in a small team setting
Key requirements
- Substantial Quantity Surveying experience within construction or infrastructure
- Proven experience managing commercial performance on complex projects
- Strong understanding of margin, risk, cash flow, forecasting and contract administration
- Experience leading, influencing and developing commercial teams
- A valid CSCS card
- Professional membership or qualification such as RICS, CIOB, ICE or similar would be desirable
