Overview

As Principal Engineer in Exponent’s London Civil & Structural Engineering Practice, you lead a growing consultancy with a strong client base. You shape strategy, win work, and mentor staff across structural and geotechnical specialisms. You bring deep expertise in failure analysis, dispute resolution, and expert testimony to deliver insightful, actionable solutions. You work with cross-functional teams and external clients to advance complex projects and expand the practice. This is a high-impact leadership role at an internationally recognized firm.

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow a profitable structural or geotechnical engineering consultancy from London
• Identify, win, and secure new business opportunities and promote Exponent
• Recruit and mentor staff in structural/geotechnical engineering and dispute resolution
• Promote Exponent through client engagements, conferences, and seminars
• Provide strategic consulting and expert witness services
• Deliver advanced engineering solutions and project management within budget
• Mentor staff in technical and business areas

Key requirements

• MS in Civil Engineering (or related) with significant business development experience
• Strong existing client base and professional reputation
• Experience in failure analysis, construction claims, dispute resolution, and litigation services
• Proven ability to attract projects and manage full-time staff
• Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to work independently and in teams
• Record of publications/presentations and commitment to quality
• Chartered Engineer (CEng)
• Leadership skills and experience providing expert testimony
• CV with publications is encouraged
