Senior Backend Software Engineer – Application Development

Overview

In this role you will design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services that power Palantir’s data-driven platforms. You’ll work across product teams to translate customer problems into scalable systems, APIs, and primitives, while improving performance and reliability. You’ll collaborate with engineers and non-technical stakeholders to deliver cohesive user experiences and robust data workflows. Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, development, and maintenance of scalable backend services underpinning data and AI systems
• Uphold coding standards through guidelines and code reviews, promoting continuous improvement
• Build robust APIs and integrate server-side logic with front-end components
• Design efficient data structures and algorithms for large-scale data
• Optimize applications for speed and scalability via performance analysis
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve user workflows and ensure cohesive experiences across product boundaries

Key requirements

• 6+ years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining live backend systems
• Deep understanding of data structures, system architecture, API development for microservices, distributed systems
• Engineering background in CS, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics or similar
• Strong coding skills in Java, C++, Python, Rust, or similar languages
• Strong written and verbal communication, ability to iterate quickly with teammates
• Willingness to obtain US Security clearance is beneficial but not required
