Principal Electrical Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will lead electrical services design activities for large multi-disciplinary rail and built-environment projects, ensuring compliant, high-quality outcomes. You work within a project team, supervise colleagues, and sign design certificates, contributing to technical development and best-practice standards. You engage with stakeholders, manage resources and budgets, and drive value-for-money design solutions. Responsibilities

• Produce and approve design concepts, drawings, specifications and other technical documents
• Set internal design standards and processes to improve quality and efficiency
• Work within project teams to achieve objectives and supervise others
• Sign off design certificates and approve work as appropriate
• Prepare and review feasibility studies, design reports and tender documentation
• Develop innovative, value-for-money design solutions meeting project requirements
• Prepare and check engineering designs, calculations and reports
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation (CDM)
• Manage project correspondence and act as a representative within Technical Directorate and Production Centres
• Demonstrate alignment with SYSTRA’s values of excellence, collaboration, respect and empowerment
• Lead and mentor staff, manage performance, recruitment and development
• Maintain relationships with internal/external stakeholders and liaise with construction teams for buildability and value
• Deliver work to programme, budget and specification, including contract documents and cost estimates
• Prepare project administration reports to the Project Manager

Key requirements

• Extensive experience leading teams on large multi-disciplinary projects in electrical services design for built environment or transport infrastructure
• Experience with railway lineside systems (points heating, signalling power, level crossings, LV distribution) and/or lighting, containment, earthing and fire alarms
• Proficiency in industry-wide software for electrical calculations and advising on new tools
• Knowledge of multi-disciplinary issues related to railway lineside systems and the Built Environment
• Qualification: HNC or equivalent
• Professional status: CEng or equivalent
