Lead Software Engineer (GraphQL)

Overview

In this role you join a brand-new GraphQL-focused squad within a scaling Tribe to shape the data access strategy and build the platform. You will stay hands-on with coding across Python, Node, TypeScript, or Go while leading architectural decisions and process design. You’ll work with AWS and modern DevOps tooling (Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform) to enable robust data surfaces. The role combines technical delivery with team-building to influence city-wide infrastructure projects in London and transformation of a major industry. You will drive the team’s impact by aligning data modelling, GraphQL, and Neo4j capabilities with business goals.

Responsibilities

• Design processes, architecture, and strategy for the GraphQL data platform
• Hands-on development across Python, Node.js, TypeScript, or Go
• Build and maintain data access, modelling, and data surfacing solutions
• Work with AWS and DevOps tooling (Kubernetes, CI/CD, Terraform)
• Form and lead a new squad, collaborating with cross-functional partners
• Shape infrastructure decisions affecting London city-wide projects

Key requirements

• Background coding in Python, Node.js, TypeScript, or Golang
• Strong interest in GraphQL and data surfaces
• Experience with AWS
• Exposure to Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and Terraform a plus
• Interest in data modelling and Neo4j
• Leadership or squad-building experience is beneficial
• Proactive problem-solver with cross-functional collaboration skills
