Overview
In this role you will lead mechanical design for Scotland’s water and wastewater projects within our high-impact Water Team. You will shape feasibility and detailed design, collaborate across disciplines, and drive delivery on large-scale programmes like the SR27 Enterprise for Scottish Water. You’ll guide design reviews, lead mechanical workstreams, and support programme and budget targets while mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities
- Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support
- Create plant layouts, mechanical drawings and specifications including WIMES data sheets and schedules
- Collaborate with civil, electrical, process and mechanical teams nationwide
- Perform site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers
- Lead and participate in design review meetings (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs, SWIFTS)
- Act as Mechanical Lead on WwTW, WTW and infrastructure projects
- Support Project Manager and Design Lead to deliver mechanical scope on time and within budget
- Line manage Mechanical Graduates, Engineers and Senior Engineers
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE)
- Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications and calculations
- Hands-on experience delivering water and wastewater engineering projects
