Retail Town Planner

Overview

In this role you will lead retail-led planning projects for a private consultancy in London, shaping development outcomes and client relationships across the full planning lifecycle. You will own projects, advise clients, and help grow the consultancy’s retail planning offering. The position combines technical planning delivery with business development in a collaborative, hybrid-working environment. You will work on a diverse pipeline of retail projects in London and across the UK.

Responsibilities

• Managing and delivering retail planning projects from inception through to determination
• Preparing and coordinating planning applications, appeals and supporting documentation
• Providing strategic planning advice to retail clients and stakeholders
• Undertaking planning research and assessing development proposals against relevant planning policy
• Liaising with local planning authorities, consultants and other project stakeholders
• Supporting business development and contributing to the growth of the retail team
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships

Key requirements

• Relevant experience within town planning, with a focus on retail projects
• Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant retail planning policy
• Experience managing planning applications and providing client-facing advice
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines
• Commercially minded approach and desire to develop career within a specialist planning consultancy
• Chartered status or progress towards RTPI accreditation would be advantageous (but strong candidates at different career stages will be considered)
