In this leadership role with Bidwells’ Scotland Planning Team you will shape the department’s direction and drive growth. You’ll oversee complex planning projects, coordinate multidisciplinary expertise, and manage key client relationships across public and private sectors. The role sits at the heart of a collaborative culture, contributing to strategy, operations, and impactful regeneration across Scotland. You will influence how we deliver high-quality planning solutions while advancing ESG-aligned outcomes and the firm’s market presence.

Responsibilities

• Shape team direction and departmental operations for growth and excellence
• Build, manage and grow a portfolio of key clients (developers, landowners, public/private bodies)
• Identify opportunities and drive new business across the firm
• Oversee complex planning projects ensuring efficient delivery and quality outcomes
• Collaborate with cross-department teams to leverage multidisciplinary expertise
• Inspire and develop a high-performing team with a culture of innovation
• Manage project finances, profitability, and debt; oversee fee performance
• Provide expert planning advice and promote technical excellence across the team
• Enhance the firm’s profile through networking, marketing and industry engagement

Key requirements

• RTPI qualified with significant town planning experience
• Specialist in planning professional issues
• Ideally experience in a consultancy or professional services environment
• Detailed knowledge of the Scottish Planning System
• Able to lead and manage a small team, with prior line/team management experience
• Strong intellect, creative and innovative thinking
• Consultative and collaborative approach
• Business development and relationship management skills
