Electrical Engineer

Overview

In this role you support the electrical design, review and implementation for HS2’s open route lineside works. You will coordinate with HS2 Rail Systems contractors and ensure designs meet rail standards for safety, reliability and buildability. You’ll assist during installation, testing and commissioning, helping to manage risks and ensure quality on a major infrastructure programme. This is a chance to contribute to the UK’s high-speed rail expansion and the integration of M&E systems across a large project.

Responsibilities

• Support design, review and implementation of electrical systems for HRS02 open route lineside works
• Interface and coordinate with HS2 Rail Systems contractors (track, signalling, telecoms, OHLE, HV power)
• Review technical documentation, drawings and specifications
• Material selection and preparation of technical approvals and acceptance documentation
• Ensure compliance with UK rail industry standards and HS2 Works Information
• Identify, assess and manage technical risks; support problem resolution
• Produce quality documentation (ITPs, installation verification check sheets)
• Support assurance, quality and safety processes throughout the project lifecycle
• Interface with installation and construction teams to ensure designs are practical and buildable
• Provide engineering support during installation, testing and commissioning
• Work with Engineering team to coordinate requirements and programme delivery
• Liaise with procurement to source appropriate electrical equipment
• Maintain coordination with Design, Safety and Planning teams

Key requirements

• Previous experience on UK rail infrastructure projects
• Experience in electrical engineering within large-scale infrastructure or rail systems
• Strong understanding of electrical design principles and UK rail standards (Network Rail, BS 7671)
• Good understanding of earthing and bonding in rail environments
• Experience in a main contractor or major project environment
• Solid knowledge of electrical installation practices, switchgear and related equipment
