Senior Mechanical Engineer, Water Projects

Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in AECOM’s Scotland Water Team, you will drive mechanical design for high-impact water projects and support delivery across feasibility, detailed design, and construction phases. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineers to shape sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure for Scotland, contributing to one of the sector’s largest programmes. You will mentor junior engineers and ensure quality through design reviews and checks. Responsibilities

• Prepare feasibility studies, outline design, detailed design and construction support
• Produce plant layouts, design drawings and mechanical plant selection including specifications, WIMES data sheets, valve schedules, equipment schedules, lifting strategies, hydraulic headloss calculations and P&IDs
• Collaborate with water, civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers nationwide
• Visit site to carry surveys and liaise with clients, contractors & suppliers
• Attend and contribute to design reviews such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs and SWIFTS
• Line manage and mentor Junior and Graduate Mechanical Engineers
• Complete checking of Mechanical deliverables produced by other engineers

Key requirements

• A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE)
• Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications, and calculations
• Hands-on experience delivering innovative solutions for water and wastewater projects
