Specialist Educational Mental Health Team Lead

Overview

In this Band 7 role, you will lead a Wolverhampton-based Mental Health Support Team (Reflexions) within the Black Country MHST model, guiding governance and staff development. You’ll supervise case work across professionals such as CBT Therapists and EMHPs while carrying a small clinical caseload. You’ll partner with Clinical Leaders to shape service development and ensure smooth multi-agency collaboration to improve outcomes for children and young people. This is a hands-on leadership role with a focus on whole-school mental health approaches and family-focused care.

Responsibilities

• Provide line management and governance for the Wolverhampton MHST, including performance, leave, attendance, appraisals, and caseload supervision
• Deliver case management supervision across professionals (CBT Therapists, EMHPs) and maintain a small personal clinical caseload
• Act as link worker between the MHST and CAMHS to ensure appropriate care and interventions
• Lead development and change within the team and across the Black Country region; support strategic plans
• Support schools and families with guidance, escalation, and reassurance; maintain multi-agency partnerships
• Contribute to departmental audits and evaluate outcomes using routine measures
• Communicate and manage risks related to wellbeing and safety of service users
• Participate in appraisals, job planning, and professional standards alignment

Key requirements

• Experience in CAMHS at a senior level with leadership and clinical skills
• Management of staff including supervision and sickness/performance monitoring
• Experience with specialist mental health assessment and interventions for children and young people
• Ability to travel across the Black Country
• Current UK professional registration (HCPC/Social Care/Nursing or BABCP) and willingness to undertake CYPIAPT CBT training (desirable)
• DBS (enhanced) clearance is required
• Experience working with schools and delivering mental health collaborative work (desirable)
