Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Data Centres) – London, Bicester or Newcastle

Overview

In this role, you will lead medium-sized electrical design projects for data centres and other buildings, coordinating design work and liaising with clients and contractors. You will develop and validate electrical design packages, ensure compliance with standards, and mentor junior engineers. The position sits within a global M&E consultancy committed to low energy, sustainable design and zero-carbon outcomes. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, technically sound solutions at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead medium-size projects from development through design and coordination of electrical services
• Provide client-facing input in engineering development and coordination for electrical installations
• Develop and specify controls, instruments and operating systems for building services
• Survey, test and report on existing electrical installations
• Ensure designs meet functional specifications, standards and customer requirements
• Validate and check designs and specifications for accuracy and robustness
• Mentor Trainees and Junior Engineers and oversee their technical content
• Communicate project progress and provide guidance to clients and contractors

Key requirements

• BEng and MSc in Engineering or equivalent
• MCIBSE/MIEE or HNC/HND with relevant experience; working towards Chartered Eng status
• Experience in specification design/drawing for multiple building types
• Solid knowledge of health and safety legislation and BS standards
• Proficiency with MS Office; ability to use IT-based calculation/spreadsheet software
• Ability to manage workload, meet deadlines, and work in a consultancy environment
• Experience in consulting or construction preferred
