Lead Manufacturing Engineer

Overview

In this role, you support plant leadership to hit business and financial targets by shaping robust manufacturing processes and leading continuous improvement and cost-out initiatives. You will work with cross-functional teams to implement lean practices, reduce variation, and apply Six Sigma strategies to improve reliability and performance. You’ll engage in design-for-manufacturing and value engineering to control development costs and extend product life. The position balances strategic planning with hands-on process optimization in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cost-efficient processes and product structures aligned with lean manufacturing
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce variation and waste
• Drive cost-out events and continuous improvement culture
• Apply lean techniques to meet customer expectations and optimise flow
• Participate in concurrent engineering activities and critical design reviews
• Lead Design For Manufacturing and Value Engineering initiatives as applicable
• Create work breakdown structures for cost estimation and support new product development
• Coordinate manufacturing liaison for products from inception to shipment
• Develop and audit complex process procedures/work instructions
• Ensure plans and KPIs are in place to achieve business objectives

Key requirements

• Relevant Engineering Degree, or equivalent qualification
• Solid understanding of engineering design and product reliability concepts
• Detailed knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
• Understanding of Six Sigma concepts and tools
• Strong problem-solving methodologies (8D, FMEA, SPC, Gage R&R, control charts)
• Knowledge of ProLaunch and CAD/CAM software
• Knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100 quality processes
• Experience with cross-functional team leadership
• Customer/supplier interfacing and negotiations
