Technical Director – Environment and Planning

Overview

Senior technical leader guiding environmental impact assessments in NSW across energy, transport, water and industry. You drive strategic client engagement, shape bids and projects from pursuit to delivery, and mentor the Sydney EIA team to grow capability. You balance approvals, risk and outcomes to deliver meaningful environmental solutions. This role supports AECOM’s renewable energy and large-scale infrastructure ambitions and cross-sector collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental impact assessments for diverse projects across sectors
• Act as senior technical advisor to clients on complex approval pathways
• Oversee performance and development of the Sydney EIA team
• Lead major projects from pursuit to completion, including bid shaping and work positioning
• Mentor consultants to raise technical and commercial confidence
• Apply State and Commonwealth EIA requirements while balancing risk and client outcomes

Key requirements

• Proven experience delivering environmental projects in NSW with understanding of planning and approval pathways
• Ability to take on Project Director responsibilities (scope, schedule, budget, risk)
• Leadership track record guiding teams and supporting others
• Strong technical foundation with REP accreditation or progress towards it, plus relevant tertiary qualifications
