Overview

As Operations Supervisor at the Sheffield Olive Grove depot, you ensure safe, punctual and cost-effective service delivery by coordinating drivers and vehicles. You’ll identify and resolve day-to-day operational issues, support front-line colleagues, and escalate key concerns to the line manager. The role blends planning, real-time problem solving and cross-team collaboration to sustain on-time performance. You’ll contribute to continuous service improvement within an innovative, customer-focused transport network.

Responsibilities

  • Forward plan on-the-day service requirements and cover for absences
  • Monitor service punctuality and availability using depot systems
  • Assist drivers and oversee driver reporting
  • Accurate capture of drivers’ hours, duties and attendance in the DAS GUI system
  • Maintain records of operational standards and performance
  • Analyze information to drive continuous improvement of service performance
  • Ensure correct vehicle allocation and timely departure from the depot
  • Handle customer and driver queries and coordinate hand-overs across shifts
  • Oversee cash collection in line with procedures
  • Investigate incidents and prepare findings and recommendations
  • Collaborate with depot operations and engineering teams to manage on-time performance
  • Maintain good working relationships with trade unions and officials
  • Comply with requisition-to-pay procedures and authorities
  • Perform other duties as required by the line manager
  • Ensure depot equipment and stock (ticket machines, cash machines, ticket rolls, etc.) are logged and maintained
  • Record lost/additional mileage for unexpected events (e.g., breakdowns)
  • Support stock levels and equipment maintenance

Key requirements

  • Previous management or supervisory experience (bus/transport preferred)
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of Road Traffic Act and Employment legislation
  • Ability to lead and inspire teams toward best practice
