Overview
In this role you will engineer and authorise vehicle repair costs, assess total losses, and prepare inspection reports within a fast-paced insurance engineering team. You will interact with customers, repairers and third parties to settle claims fairly and efficiently, using vehicle valuation data and manufacturer methodologies. Your work supports accurate settlements and fraud risk mitigation, contributing to a customer-focused claims operation. This is a hands-on, impact-driven position at a leading UK motor and home insurer.
Responsibilities
- Engineer and authorise vehicle repair costs following manufacturer methodologies
- Produce inspection reports and make total loss decisions
- Liaise with customers and third parties to settle claims and establish market position for vehicles
- Utilise valuation guides and market research for accurate settlements
- Identify potentially fraudulent activity and liaise with claims colleagues
- Support total loss valuation handlers and settle cases beyond economical repair or stolen/unrecovered vehicles
- Drive efficiencies by engaging with third-party networks and expediting the claims process
- Operate within agreed KPIs and SLA”
Key requirements
- Experience in the repair industry (mechanical/body)
- Extensive vehicle make-up knowledge
- Competent in automotive estimate systems
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team and collaborate effectively
- Understanding of relevant legislation (FOS, FCA, DPA)
- Strong negotiation, planning and time-management skills
