Overview

In this Pre-Construction Manager role, you will lead the development of target prices, programmes and estimating outputs for complex geotechnical work within a major infrastructure programme. You will work with commercial, technical, procurement and operations teams to support project delivery and governance across the GSA. You’ll manage estimating activity, stakeholder engagement and risk/opportunity management to enable confident decision-making. This position sits in the Geotechnical Sub-Contract Alliance and focuses on delivering robust pre-construction outputs that support Sizewell C.

Responsibilities

  • Define and agree pre-construction scope of works
  • Lead estimates and programmes per CWA and governance expectations
  • Review drawings and technical info for first-principles cost build-ups
  • Communicate pre-construction outputs clearly to stakeholders
  • Identify, record and manage assumptions, risks and opportunities
  • Collaborate with project teams and supply chain on methodologies and interfaces
  • Oversee first-principles pricing in Candy estimating software when required
  • Maintain control of data and estimating records
  • Apply rigorous review processes to ensure accuracy and consistency

Key requirements

  • Proven experience leading pre-construction or estimating teams on major geotechnical, civil or infrastructure projects
  • Strong planning, programming, risk and opportunity management understanding
  • Confident communicator who can engage with technical, commercial, operational and client-facing stakeholders
  • Strong management capability including project management, change management and team leadership
  • Highly numerate and analytical with attention to detail across quantities, rates and calculations
  • Ability to identify, manage and control risk, opportunity and change in pre-construction
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, SharePoint, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Understanding of productivity, plant and labour build-ups, subcontract pricing, estimate assumptions, exclusions and clarifications
  • Relevant qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or related discipline with experience in specialist geotechnical contracting
  • Desirable: Candy estimating software, NEC4, alliance working and progress towards chartership
