Portfolio Delivery Manager – Transport

Overview

In this role you will lead a Core IT portfolio within a major UK organisation and drive delivery and maturity across IT transformation. You will manage a team of PMs and BAs, and partner with PMO, Architecture, Product, and security teams to deliver across infrastructure, platforms and new digital capabilities. The role combines hands-on delivery with shaping demand, planning and governance to reduce bureaucracy and raise delivery quality. A strong onsite presence in London four days per week anchors the function and provides visibility across operating companies. This is a build-and-improve opportunity with real influence on the delivery function and its future maturity.

Responsibilities

• Lead a broad portfolio of Core IT projects and programmes
• Lead, coach and develop a team of PMs and BAs
• Improve how demand is captured, shaped, prioritized and brought into delivery
• Build a clearer forward pipeline of well-shaped initiatives
• Strengthen portfolio planning, resource management and capacity planning
• Improve delivery standards, governance, assurance and ways of working
• Own portfolio-level risks, issues, dependencies and escalations
• Build strong relationships across the wider business and anticipate future needs
• Collaborate with PMO, Architecture, Product, Service, Information Security and wider teams
• Raise delivery consistency and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy
• Help shape and embed a more mature delivery capability while delivering

Key requirements

• Led complex portfolios of technology change
• Strong people leadership experience and a track record of developing delivery teams
• Experience of demand management, portfolio planning and prioritisation
• Strong governance, risk, dependency and delivery assurance capability
• Managed resource and capacity across multiple concurrent projects
• Excellent business stakeholder management and the confidence to challenge constructively
• Worked across a broad technology portfolio including infrastructure, platforms, operational technology or enterprise systems
• Seen mature delivery practices and pragmatic in introducing appropriate improvements
• Strong commercial awareness including budgets, suppliers and third-party delivery
• Hands-on approach in environments where not everything is fully defined
• Experience from transport, travel, hospitality, retail, logistics or another operational/service-led environment would be valuable
• Open to candidates from mature consultancy or technology service environments who have delivered and managed business relationships
